How to erect NHW street signs

Following the changes within the Police Force and the loss of the NHW Administrator role, there is a new system for NHW co-ordinators to follow in applying for NHW street signs. 

Guide to the authorisation and erection of Neighbourhood Watch street signs 

Authorisation must now be obtained from Bristol City Council, and an information pack outlining the process to follow will be sent out to all Co-ordinators for their records.The guide should be kept with a copy of your street sign authorisation letter from the Bristol City Council on receipt.

  • The completed form should be sent direct to the following address:
          Highways and Traffic Management
          5th Floor, Wilder House
          2-12 Wilder Street
          Bristol  BS2 8PH

  • You need to include a map of your scheme area, identifying the location(s) where you would like the street sign(s) to go, including the number of the lamp post to be used if possible.

  • After you have received authorisation from Bristol City Council, this form is to be completed and sent to the following address along with a copy of your authorisation letter:
           Citizen Focus Team
           Avon and Somerset Constabulary
           Valley Road
           Portishead
           Bristol  BS20 8BR

  • You need to include a cheque for the total amount detailed on the form, made payable to Avon and Somerset Constabulary.


Please do not erect street signs without the required authorisation from Bristol City Council or they will not be covered by Public Liability Insurance.
