Crime Prevention Website
This is a new website developed by Calvin Beckford, retired Metropolitan policeman and crime prevention specialist, to support both the public and the police service with detailed and up-to-date advice and information. There are sections on home security, vehicles and bikes and personal security, together with handy tools like a printable holiday checklist.
The site includes a unique online Home Security Survey application (supported by several UK police services) that helps you to assess the security of your property if you are considering making improvements. On completion of the anonymous survey, you are sent a tailor-made report (with risk assessment score) that identifies your security weaknesses and provides links to other areas of the website for more detailed information. The survey carries the support of several UK police services.

Silver Line - free friendship phone service for older people
A free 24-hour dedicated helpline for older people across the UK has been set up by Esther Rantzen. 'The Silver Line' aims to combat loneliness in the over-65s by providing friendship, information and advice through calls to trained volunteers.
Ms Rantzen said she hoped the phone line number, 0800 4 70 80 90, would be remembered by all older people when they needed friendship or advice.
The Department of Health has said that loneliness causes serious physical and mental damage, and more than half of the UK's over-75s live alone. "We will signpost them to the services in their community, and by showing them we value them and care about them we will restore their confidence and feelings of self-worth."
For more details please go to the website www.thesilverline.org.uk or call
